Staff Pick of the Week

Michael's Pick of the Week, April 2017:

The Muestra de Saka Exclusivo from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

"Steve Saka, this cigar is outstanding! Can't wait for Vegas to see you and find out what's next."

From creator Steve Saka's press release- "The Exclusivo is a special liga I created to be the ultimate expression of my love for all Nicaraguan trips. It is a complex smoke featuring filler tobaccos from all four primary growing regions: Jalapa, Condega, Ometepe and Esteli – by an extremely careful positioning of the leaf it takes the smoker from a silky smooth beginning of sweet cedar and cinnamon building to a much fuller, pepper laced conclusion. It is a very intricate blend that rewards the smoker with endless complexity and progression.”

4/14 UPDATE: Steve adds in a message to all of us at the Humdiour on the day of the Exclusivo's arrival "I wrote that description back before the cigars had six months of additional aging - I now find the cigar to be a touch milder, less emphasis on the pepper and more on the creamy notes - I find it to be like crème brûlée - hope you customers enjoy them!"

But enough description... this a cigar you have to experience for yourself.

El Gueguense Corona Gorda

Finnie's Top Pick of 2015:
El Gueguense Corona Gorda

For five hundred years, Nicaragua has served as a crossroads of cultures, ever since indigenous inhabitants mocked arriving Spanish conquistadors in a colorful, costumed satirical masterpiece called “El Güegüense” (Gwe-gwe-nse), or “The Wise Man.” It is Nicaragua’s signature work of drama, the ultimate expression of its unique history, language, dance, and culture. This Gran Baile, or great dance, continues today, not only in the form of long-held folkloric performances, but in the careful blending of Nicaragua’s tobacco, which is some of the richest, most flavorful filler tobacco in the world. Master blender Nicholas Melillo has worked tirelessly to create and honor the great dance of flavors which you are about to experience in El Güegüense cigars.

These cigars are made with a blend of Cuban Criollo 98 and  Corojo 99 varieties harvested in the areas of Jalapa and Esteli.

Padron Serie 47

Chris's Top Pick of 2015:
Padron Serie 1926, No. 47

Released exclusively for the 73 Tobacconist Association of America member retailers, the No. 47 is a new size in the Padron Serie 1926 line of cigars. The 1926 line uses all Nicaraguan tobacco aged for a minimum of five years. Full bodied and peppery, with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, this new addition to the Serie 1926 line was Chris’ favorite new cigar of 2015.
Bella Carmella
Jim’s Top Pick of 2015:
Bella Carmella Lonsdale

Bella Carmella is the second release from Rocky Patel made exclusively for The Humidour Cigar Shoppe. This follow up to the very successful Zorba is a milder smoother cigar, featuring a Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder, and filler blend of Honduran tobacco from two different regions. This was Jim’s favorite new cigar of 2015, and not just because it’s named after his granddaughter.
Davidoff Escurio

Michael’s Top Pick of 2015:
Davidoff Escurio Robusto

Davidoff moves into new territory this year with the release of the Davidoff Escurio. Unlike any Davidoff you’ve smoked before, the Escurio uses tobaccos from Brazil and The Dominican Republic under an Ecuadorian Wrapper. Flavors of intense red pepper perfectly balance notes of sweet fruit. This cigar is bold, balanced, complex, and like everything from Davidoff perfectly made.
Drew Estate Undercrown
Andrew’s Top Pick of 2015:
Undercrown Shade Double Corona

The Undercrown Shade from Drew Estate was blended by Drew Estate Master Blender Willy Herrera in collaboration with the Drew Estate rollers who blended the original Undercrown. Featuring a light brown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Sumatra binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, the Undercrown Shade is creamy with some light pepper. This new extension of the Undercrown line was Andrew’s favorite new cigar of 2015.
Angel's Anvil
Phil’s Top Pick of 2015:
The Angel’s Anvil TAA-MMXV by Crowned Heads

The Angel’s Anvil TAA-MMXV was a limited release cigar made by Crowned Heads exclusively for the 73 members of the Tobacconist Association of America. This cigar features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, over Nicaraguan binder and filler. Medium-full in strength, with flavors of cedar and a natural sweetness, this was Phil’s favorite new cigar of 2015.
